Ronaldo Ranked Biggest Celebrity Among Players In Euro 2020; 5 Englishmen In Top 10
The group stages of Euro 2020 showcased European Football’s biggest stars and a recent report ranked each star’s celebrity power.
According to data presented by Safe, Cristiano Ronaldo is the biggest celebrity among footballers playing in Euro 2020 based on a combination of factors such as social media following, market value and global news coverage.
Ronaldo Scored A Perfect 100 In Celebrity Index; 5 Englishmen In Top 10
Some of football’s biggest stars call Europe home, filling this year’s tournament with enormous star power. To celebrate this incredible showcase of talent, data platform Statista, published an index ranking footballers at Euro 2020 and their level of celebrity. The index takes into consideration a player’s social media following, his market value and a score based on global media news coverage.
According to an aggregation of these factors, the biggest celebrity among footballers at the Euros is Cristiano Ronaldo, scoring a perfect 100 in Statista’s Celebrity Index Score. France’s Kylian Mbappe was ranked as the second-biggest celebrity footballer of Euro 2020 with a celebrity index score of 52.2.
Notably, five of the top 10 celebrity players at Euro 2020 are Englishmen; Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho and Trent Alexander-Arnold. England’s top division is also well represented with six of the top 10 celebrity footballers playing in the English Premier League.
Celebrity Index Broken Down By Factor
Social Media following has a 51% weight on the celebrity index score and Ronaldo’s social media following dwarfs that of any other player at Euro 2020. Ronaldo had combined Twitter and Instagram followers of 373.18M compared to the next highest following belonging to Gareth Bale of just 62.37M
Ronaldo’s large lead in Social Media following meant that his relatively modest €50M market value did little to stop his charge to the top of the rankings. Nevertheless, player market value still accounts for 29% of the celebrity score, and Mbappe’s highest market value of €160 is what propelled him to second place in the rankings. Harry Kane has the second-highest market value (€120M) out of all the players at Euro 2020, making him the third-biggest celebrity among footballers at the Euros and the biggest celebrity footballer from England.
Global Online News Coverage was the third factor to be considered and accounted for 20% of the celebrity index score. Ronaldo’s wide lead in the overall celebrity rankings is also due to having the highest mentions in global news coverage at an estimated 43,733.
Marcus Rashford was recognized as an MBE of the UK in 2020 for his off-pitch activism against homelessness and poverty. The young Englishman’s charitable work is a clear contributor to him earning second place in the global news coverage rankings with an estimated 28,157 mentions.
Rex Pascual, sports editor at Safe Betting Sites, commented; “Cristiano Ronaldo has been a global superstar for many years and it comes to no surprise that he is ranked as Euro 2020’s biggest celebrity. In more modern times, professional athletes have gained a bigger influence in the public sphere, with Rashord’s accomplishments a key indicator of that. With Ronaldo in the last few years of his illustrious career, expect a tight race between his potential successors in their bid to become football’s next biggest celebrity.”

Reacting to the development, Manchester United shares were up at nearly 19 percent at the opening of market on Wednesday. This is in addition to the 14 percent gain it recorded on Tuesday afternoon.
In a similar development, Manchester United fans have called for fresh investment and new ownership to boost the title chances of the club after many years of unimpressive performance.
“Our club needs new investment more than ever. That requires new ownership,” the fans group stated in a statement.
They added that the fans group should be given the opportunity to have a say in the future of the club.

2022 World Cup: $220 Worth Football Competition Begin on Sunday
As the World anticipates the most watched sporting event scheduled to begin on Sunday, the organiser, FIFA, and the host country, Qatar have perfected plans to host the most expensive sporting event in the world so far.
Investors King learnt that the government of Qatar is spending a sum of $220 billion to host the three weeks event which will kick start in three days with an opening match between the host country, Qatar, and Ecuador at the 60,000-capacity Al Bayt Stadium.
The last world cup which was held in 2018 and hosted by Russia was valued at $11.6 billion. This represents an increase of about 1800%.
Although the host country, Qatar built a new city, new airports, and new stadiums to host the event, observers however opined that the sum expended toward the event is unnecessary and flamboyant.
Ahead of the event, it was learnt that a number of participating countries have arrived in the Middle East country.
The United States and Australia are the first teams to arrive for this year’s edition of the FIFA world cup.
It could be noted that Qatar is the first country in the middle east to host the world cup event while it is the smallest country so far to ever host the world football event.
Meanwhile, to host a hitch-free event, Qatar has partnered with some countries to ensure utmost security at the sporting event which is expected to attract about 1.6 million visitors.
Thirteen countries, including the U.S., UK, Turkey, France, Germany, and Pakistan, are sending security personnel to Qatar to bolster security at the World Cup tournament.
The United Kingdom has pledged to send its Royal Navy and Royal Air Force to help secure the sea and air bases during the World Cup.
Pakistan has sent 500 armed soldiers, Turkey is sending 3,000 riot police officers while the United States Forces have also landed in Doha ahead of the opening event on Sunday.
