Concerns over employee safety and accountability have escalated at Access Bank following the alleged discovery of a hidden camera incident involving a former staff member at its contact centre in Oniru, Lagos State.
Stephen Ifeanyichukwu Ejezie, a former Quality Assurance Specialist at the facility, was reportedly apprehended after a female staff member noticed a mobile phone positioned towards her from an adjacent toilet cubicle while she was using the restroom.
The incident occurred during a night shift around 1.30 am last Wednesday.
Following the alarm raised by the affected employee, Access Bank security operatives detained Ejezie and conducted a search of his residence.
Reports indicated that more than 400 compromising video clips involving male and female staff members were recovered.
Sources alleged that Ejezie had secretly recorded colleagues during vulnerable moments and was selling the footage through online platforms to both local and foreign buyers.
Despite the severity of the allegations, Ejezie has since been released, prompting widespread fear and discontent among Access Bank employees. Workers expressed concerns that the issue may be suppressed to safeguard the bank’s public image.
Employees who attended a management briefing on Friday reported that no specific support measures have been introduced and that they were simply instructed to refrain from staying overnight at the contact centre premises going forward.
Several affected staff members have called for transparent communication and immediate disclosure regarding the identities of individuals who may have been recorded.
Many expressed frustration that no counselling services or institutional safeguards have been put in place to address the trauma stemming from the incident.
The bank has not issued a formal public statement addressing the allegations beyond confirming the initial arrest. Efforts to obtain an official update on the matter as of press time were unsuccessful.
The situation continues to generate anxiety across the organisation with staff demanding full accountability and assurances that their personal privacy will be protected in future workplace operations.
