Naira Remains under pressure

Naira traded near record lows at the parallel market popularly known as the black market on Friday, July 9, 2021 as dollar scarcity amid high demand for the greenback by import-dependent businesses impedes the Central Bank of Nigeria’s efforts to prop up the local currency value.

The Naira opened at N505 against the United States Dollar on Friday at the black market, while against the British Pound and Euro common currency it sold at N708 and N593, respectively.

Operators at the Bureau De Change segment exchanged Naira at N500; N710 and N600 to a United States Dollar, British Pound and Euro, respectively.

However, the local currency trades lower at the Central Bank of Nigeria’s regulated section that is mostly inaccessible for most Nigerians. The Naira exchanged at N410.11; N486.1034 and N567.483 to a US Dollar, Euro and British Pound, respectively. See the tables below for more details.
