Parents, Guardians Confuse as WAEC Prevents Ekiti State Candidates from Checking Results

The results of students that sat for the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) in Ekiti State have been withheld over nonpayment of outstanding debt by the state governor.

Many of the students, public students, have said since the results were released on November 2, 2020, they have been unable to check their results from the regular WAEC portal.

Parents and guardians also expressed shocked at the situation and appealed for both the state and the exam board to reach a peaceful agreement so the students can check their results on time, especially with tertiary institutions expected to resume early next year.

The governor of Ekiti, Governor Kayode Fayemi had commenced the payment of WAEC for all public schools during his second term in 2018 as part of his free education policy. The candidates and guardians were agitated seeing that all public school results in the state were withheld by the WAEC, the situation led to rumour that the state government is indebted to WAEC.

However, Mr. Akin Omole, the commissioner for Information in Ekiti cleared the air on the rumored state indebtedness to WAEC, he said all results on hold were due to error in computation.

“The seizure was caused by the mistakes made in some of the ways the results were computed. The issue of Ekiti owing money doesn’t arise, it was a blatant lie. The government immediately contacted WAEC and it tendered apologies to the state”,  Mr. Omole said.

“We appeal to our candidates and parents not to be ruffled by this. The government is handling the issue with all seriousness. Going by what WAEC said, the results will be released either on Thursday or Friday this week,” he further added.
