- Smartphone: Users Splash $120b on Apps in 2019
A mobile report has shown that 204 billion mobile applications valued at $120 billion were downloaded in 2019 by smartphone users.
The annual report released by the App Annie revealed that mobile apps downloaded in 2019 grew by 6 percent when compared to the previous year, while it surged by 45 percent compared to 2016 downloads.
App Annie attributed the growth to emerging nations were tech innovations and products are having the biggest impacts.
The emerging nations with the largest percentage of download during the year under review were India, Brazil and Indonesia with 190 percent, 40 percent, and 70 percent growth rate, respectively.
China, however, remains king as it recorded 80 percent growth in 2019 when download slowed by 5 percent in the United States despite recording 12.3 billion downloads in the year. Japan and South Korea recorded 2.5 billion and 2 billion downloads, respectively.
The $120 billion was spent on games and subscription app but games accounted for 72 percent of consumer spending. While subscription of non-gaming apps constituted 28 percent, more than 18 percent recorded in 2016.
