- Lagos Plans Health Insurance for Retirees, Others
The Director-General, Lagos State Pension Commission, Mrs Folashade Onanuga, has said that retirees in the state will be included in the health insurance scheme of the state.
She spoke during the 15th retirement benefit documentation seminar for employees in the Lagos State Public Service due to retire between January and June, 2019, in Lagos State.
Onanuga said, “This is because health is wealth and we want to ensure that our retirees are in the best health condition to enjoy retirement. Lagos State has the interest of both its workers and ex-workers in mind.”
While calling on the prospective retirees who have terminal ailments to submit their medical reports alongside their documents when processing their pension, she promised that the state government would give such retirees preferential treatment, to enable them take care of their health.
The state government, through LASPEC, she added, would assist its retirees to get their respective pension entitlement as and when due.
Onanuga also urged workers who would soon retire to always ensure that they submitted the needed documentation six months before retirement to ensure approvals were made.
The Commissioner for Establishment and Pension, Mr Akintola Benson, said that the state had the interest of retirees at heart, and had committed a lot of money for the payment of pension entitlement of Lagos civil service retirees since the inception of the Contributory Pension Scheme in the state.
The Head of Service, Lagos State, Mrs Folashade Adesoye, while applauding the prospective retirees for their services to the state, said their dedication and commitment to service had made Lagos a symbol and example to other states.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishment and Pension, Mrs Rhoda Ayinda, urged participants to be enlightened on the two retirement exit options which are; annuity and programme withdrawal, so that they would be well informed on what to pick.
