The Chairman of the Forum of Governors under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, Governor Bala Mohammed has warned President Bola Tinubu against implementing the Tax Reform Policy his administration introduced.

Mohammed, who is governing Bauchi State, asserted that the tax reform bills currently before the National Assembly disproportionately benefit only one region of the country, warning that such development spells out a bad omen for the nation.

Speaking at a meeting with the Christian community in Bauchi State, the PDP Governors Forum Chairman, asked President Bola Tinubu to have a re-think over the tax policy reforms, warning that they could incite anarchy and disunity in Nigeria.

The governor noted that the policy does not support the North, arguing that governors would struggle to meet salary obligations if such policy scales through.

Expressing further concern over the matter, Mohammed declared that the tax reforms are not advantageous for northern Nigeria, maintaining that his government would not be able to meet his salary obligations towards workers.

He emphasised the importance of President Tinubu adhering to complaints over the tax reform bills, and reconsidering his steps.

Mohammed stressed that if the tax reforms bill succeeds, it may result to anarchy in the country.

“They need to listen to us, or they risk inviting anarchy, which would be detrimental. We supported the president during the elections both in this state and others,” Mohammed said.

He insisted that the federal government under President Tinubu must heed critics’ warnings and halt policies that favour only one region of the country.

The governor stated that the issue surrounding the tax reform bills transcends religion and ethnicity, adding that it is about national unity and ensuring equitable governance.

He advocated for good leadership, expressing readiness to voice his discontent over the policy.

According to him, his government will continue to press for change, but should the circumstances remain unchanged, he will reveal his true intentions and fight for the cause he believes in.
