The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has debunked reports that Port-Harcourt Refinery has stopped operation.
Some media reports had indicated that the refinery shut down and no longer producing fuel.
The reports further stated that the refining company stopped working, while lifting of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) has been jettisoned.
There were claims that lifting of petrol had stopped on December 13, as the 18-arm loading bay of the new Port Harcourt refinery was empty.
Drivers who had parked their trucks numbering about 18 had expected to lift products but it was gathered that they could not load because the loading bay was empty.
This claims were coming despite $1.5billion rehabilitation of the company.
Denying the reports, however, NNPCL Limited claimed the company is fully operational.
Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), on Saturday morning, explained that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery which was re-streamed two months ago has not shut down.
He said, “We wish to clarify that such reports are totally false as the refinery is fully operational as verified a few days ago by former Group Managing Directors of NNPC.
“Preparation for the day’s loading operation is currently ongoing.
“Members of the public are advised to discountenance such reports as they are the figments of the imagination of those who want to create artificial scarcity and rip-off Nigerians.”
