GTCO Commemorates Listing on Nigerian Exchange - Investors King

Banking stocks continued to dominate trading activity on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Monday with GTCO Plc recording the highest transaction value among the market’s most actively traded equities.

Although Access Holdings Plc led the market by volume after investors traded 40.04 million shares worth N1.19 billion, GTCO Plc attracted the largest value of transactions with 16.97 million shares exchanged for N2.24 billion, indicating sustained institutional interest in the banking giant.

Most Actively Traded Banking Stocks

Company Volume Value
Access Holdings Plc 40.04 million N1.19 billion
FCMB Group Plc 25.64 million N297.66 million
Sterling Financial Holdings Plc 18.06 million N136.91 million
GTCO Plc 16.97 million N2.24 billion

The concentration of trading activity in banking stocks highlights the sector’s continued importance to overall market liquidity.

Three of the four most actively traded equities during the session were financial institutions, reinforcing investors’ preference for highly liquid banking stocks despite buying interest spreading into other sectors.

The strong participation in banking counters came as the broader market extended its rally.

The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) advanced 0.29 percent to 247,699.78 points, while equity market capitalisation increased by approximately N1.04 trillion to N160.600 trillion, supported by gains in heavyweight stocks.

While energy and telecommunications stocks helped lift the benchmark index, banking equities remained the market’s liquidity backbone, attracting substantial trading volumes and institutional capital.

Monday’s trading pattern suggests investors continue to view leading banks as the preferred vehicles for deploying capital, ensuring the financial sector remains central to price discovery and liquidity on the Nigerian Exchange.
