NNPC Limited has confirmed an explosion affecting one of its gas transmission assets in Delta State following an incident reported at approximately 17:50 hours on 10 December 2025 near the Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikpopo communities within the Gbaramatu Kingdom.

According to the company, initial checks showed a sudden pressure drop consistent with a loss of containment on a pipeline operated by the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC).

The state-owned energy company stated that the exact cause of the explosion has not yet been established, adding that a full investigation is underway to determine the source of the breach.

NNPC said its immediate priority is safeguarding residents of the surrounding communities and minimising environmental impact.

The firm noted that emergency response procedures have been activated, with teams deployed to the scene to coordinate containment efforts and support affected settlements.

“We are working closely with the relevant authorities and community leaders to ensure a coordinated and effective response,” the company said, emphasising its commitment to maintaining safety and environmental standards across its operations.

The company assured that further updates will be issued as more verified information becomes available.
