Lagos is set to further solidify its status as a major tech hub in Africa with the launch of the LGS2 Data Centre, a project by Rack Centre.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to lead the inauguration on April 10, 2025.
The new $120 million facility, known as LGS2, is a state-of-the-art Tier III data centre designed to meet the growing demand for data services in Nigeria and West Africa.
Rack Centre, recognized as a leading carrier-neutral operator, says the centre will double the country’s data centre capacity. With a 12MW IT load, the LGS2 facility will offer unmatched scalability and efficiency for businesses navigating the digital era.
Governor Sanwo-Olu confirmed his attendance, noting that the launch will reinforce Lagos’ position as a critical player in the regional tech landscape.
“The upcoming launch of Rack Centre’s new data centre is a testament to the strides Lagos is making in positioning itself as a tech leader in West Africa,” he stated. “This facility will enhance Rack Centre’s presence in the region and provide businesses with the infrastructure they need to grow in the digital age.”
Rack Centre’s CEO, Lars Johannisson, described the LGS2 Data Centre as an addition to Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.
Johannisson said the facility would cater to the demands of businesses that rely on secure, scalable, and sustainable data storage solutions.
“The LGS2 Data Centre represents a monumental leap for Nigeria’s digital infrastructure,” Johannisson said. “It provides an unparalleled level of service that will meet the evolving needs of businesses and help propel Nigeria’s digital economy forward.”
The new centre will also have a significant environmental focus, with Rack Centre committing to sustainable digitization practices.
The LGS2 Data Centre will be designed to operate efficiently while minimizing its environmental impact, aligning with global best practices in data centre management.
With the LGS2 Data Centre now operational, Lagos will further solidify its position as a major technology and innovation hub in Africa.
The facility is expected to attract both local and international investments, offering businesses the infrastructure needed to support their growing data needs.
