Moniepoint Inc., a leading Nigerian fintech firm, has announced the expansion of its Women in Tech programme by increasing its internship slots from 10 to 15 as part of its commitment to advancing gender inclusion in the technology sector.

The initiative, which provides young women with practical experience in cloud engineering, backend engineering, data engineering, systems administration, technical product management, and user experience, aims to bridge the gender gap in Nigeria’s tech industry.

Dubbed the Dream 15, the expanded programme will offer a six-month internship featuring direct mentorship, competitive remuneration, essential work tools, branded merchandise, and the possibility of full-time employment based on performance.

The initiative aligns with Moniepoint’s broader strategy to foster diversity and empower women to excel in traditionally male-dominated technical roles.

Speaking on the development, Chinaza Nduka-Dike, Vice President of People Operations at Moniepoint Inc., reiterated the company’s commitment to fostering gender equity in tech.

“With the Women in Tech initiative, we are not just inspiring inclusion; we are actively creating sustainable pathways for women to thrive in the tech industry. Diversity fuels innovation, and through programmes like this, we are empowering women to take on leadership roles, develop critical skills, and shape the future of technology,” Nduka-Dike stated.

Recent data from the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reveals that while women constitute nearly half of Nigeria’s population, they account for only 25% of the country’s tech workforce, despite making up 22% of STEM graduates annually.

This disparity highlights the need for initiatives like Women in Tech, which equip young women with real-world experience and mentorship to contribute effectively to Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

Since its inception, the Women in Tech programme has been a transformative force, not just for participants but for the broader technology ecosystem.

By offering mentorship, structured training, and hands-on involvement in live digital finance projects, Moniepoint is actively working to ensure that more women can access opportunities in a rapidly evolving sector.
