Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration in Ondo State has been on the necks of former officials of late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu over the property of the state.
The incumbent government alleged that there are scores of its properties in the hands of private individuals who worked with the deceased governor.
It raised an alarm that one year after the death of the ex-Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the officials could not deem it fit to return the property in their possessions.
Threatening to institute legal suits against defaulting individuals, the state government, through the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, ordered those in possession of the government’s property unlawfully to return them immediately.
The Attorney General who gave the order in a statement he issued in Akure, the state capital, said anyone who failed to return the assets would be made to face the wrath of the law, noting that the state has been patient enough.
Ajulo lamented that one year after the untimely passing of former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, a significant portion of the state’s assets had been unlawfully transferred into private hands.
Insisting that the development is unacceptable, the AG, during a candid review of the past year under Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, disclosed that the steps allegedly taken by the deceased’s men were wrong, adding that the situation would no longer be tolerated.
As the chief law officer of the state, Ajulo said he is duty-bound to ensure that Ondo State operates within the framework of its constitution and laws, adding that the state law enforcement and regulatory agencies must be fully accountable.
He also expressed concern over attempts to withhold crucial information from Aiyedatiwa, warning that efforts to silence inquiries through blackmail and baseless accusations against the governor and some of his commissioners would not be allowed.
Noting that only the guilty should fear, Ajulo alleged that the Aiyedatiwa administration encountered resistance when questions were raised as some vested interests had been alleging that the governor was tarnishing the memory of the late Akeredolu and attacking his nuclear and political family.
He added that some of the individuals have resorted to media attacks, yet they fail to explain why they continuously react without provocation.
The commissioner called on those involved in the misappropriation of assets to come forward or face the full force of the law.
