Barely 24 hours before the governorship election in Ondo State, the brother of the late former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has thrown his weight behind the ambition of Social Democratic Party candidate, Bamidele Akingboye.
Oluwafemi Akeredolu, a member of the Akeredolu family and the younger brother of the late governor, declared this at a programme to make known his support for Akingboye in Akure, the state capital.
He said Akingboye’s vision was to activate Ondo’s underutilised resources, particularly the Ondo Seaport, one of the state’s most promising assets, which remains undeveloped despite its potential as a major economic driver.
He reminded the crowd that though his late brother was a dedicated APC member, the election is not about party but about the progress of Ondo.
He said if a party had chosen candidates who are not fit for particular office, it is wise to vote for people who have the competence even if they are not a member of one’s party.
Maintaining that Ondo State’s seaport is one of the deepest and capable of accommodating large vessels, Oluwafemi recalled how his late brother obtained the port certificate before he died, noting that the progress has stalled despite having an APC government in place.
Oluwafemi said Ondo needs change and that is why he endorsed SDP and its candidate, Akingboye.
He stated that if elected, Akingboye would begin his term by investing his resources to advance the state.
