The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced an additional public holiday for this year’s Eid-El-Fitr celebration.

Thursday, April 11th, 2024, has been designated as the official holiday to mark the joyous occasion.

The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, conveyed the announcement while extending heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for successfully completing a month of spiritual devotion and self-reflection.

In a statement issued by Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, the government reiterated its dedication to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all citizens.

The declaration of the additional public holiday serves as a gesture of solidarity with the Muslim community and recognizes the significance of Eid-El-Fitr in the Islamic calendar.

Eid-El-Fitr, also known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” marks the end of Ramadan, a month-long period of fasting, prayer, and reflection observed by Muslims worldwide.

It is a time of joy, gratitude, and communal celebration, where families and friends come together to share meals, exchange gifts, and extend acts of charity to those in need.

The announcement of the extra holiday provides an opportunity for Muslims across Nigeria to observe Eid-El-Fitr with their loved ones, participate in special prayers, and engage in festive gatherings while adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols.
