It has been revealed that engineers at OpenAI, the trailblazing artificial intelligence (AI) research laboratory, are raking in $800,000 annually, making them some of the highest-paid professionals in the tech industry.

An analysis conducted by compensation data platform Levels.fyi sheds light on the extraordinary earning potential of these AI experts.

The data indicates that the salary range for OpenAI’s engineering roles typically spans from $200,000 to $370,000.

However, for more specialized positions, the range extends from $300,000 to an eye-watering $450,000. When factoring in bonuses and stock awards, total compensation for these roles can soar to a staggering $800,000.

The revelation comes at a time when OpenAI faced a recent upheaval, with CEO Sam Altman briefly ousted and subsequently reinstated after an outcry from hundreds of employees.

This incident underscores the substantial leverage that the highly skilled workforce in the tech industry currently holds.

Julia Pollak, Chief Economist at job site ZipRecruiter, emphasized the scarcity of talent in emerging technologies like AI, stating, “For emerging technologies like AI, you only have a very small, small group of people who are experienced. They are the product, they are the company.”

The demand for AI expertise has driven median total compensation for AI-focused engineers to unparalleled heights.

With such hefty paychecks, OpenAI engineers not only wield influence within their organization but also stand as a testament to the growing value of specialized skills in the ever-evolving tech landscape.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, who revealed the new wage of N73,000 for the state’s workforce during the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign flag-off in Ondo West Local Government Area on Saturday, stated that the government has implemented measures, including training programs and timely salary payments, to motivate civil servants.

Investors King reports that Aiyedatiwa assumed office as the acting governor of Ondo State following the death of former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who passed away at 67 after battling leukemia.

As Aiyedatiwa prepares to contest the governorship in the off-cycle election scheduled for November 16, 2024, under the APC platform, he reiterated his commitment to improving the welfare of civil servants in the state.

He urged residents and citizens to turn out in large numbers and vote for him.

“Our civil servants are being motivated through various training programs, and their salaries are being paid regularly. We do not owe, but let me announce to you that this administration has decided to implement the new minimum wage,” Aiyedatiwa said.

“While the minimum wage is set at N70,000, ours will be N73,000. We will continue to improve your welfare and advance further. On November 16, 2024, come out in large numbers and vote for APC.”

In September, the Federal Government approved the payment of the newly set N70,000 minimum wage for workers across the country, as confirmed by Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

Civil servants in Kogi State are celebrating as Governor Usman Ododo has increased the state’s minimum wage to N72,500.

Investors King reported that during the unveiling ceremony of the new minimum wage on Monday, October 7, Governor Ododo announced an immediate salary increase for civil servants in the state.

According to the governor, the wage increase aims to help civil servants in Kogi cope with the economic hardship in the country and support families in the state. The Governor also announced a one-year suspension of the Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax.

The Governor promised to allocate state resources equally to all sectors while emphasizing the efforts put in by government officials to filter out ghost workers from the system.

Ododo said, “I can not forget where I came from, I am a man from a humble background who became who I am by the grace of God and will therefore not use my position to oppress anyone but to better the lots of the people.

“You people generously elected me as your governor, and the resources of the state belong to you all, I am just your chief servant and I will ensure that the resources are allocated to all sectors fairly and equitably.

“All you have seen today is the painstaking efforts of the labour leaders and government who conducted staff audit screenings in the previous administration all in a bid to ensure that the right people take what belongs to them as workers and not ghost workers.”

“The new N72,500 minimum wage should take immediate effect, to enable the workers to cope with the current situation in the country.”

Speaking further, the Chairman of the state Minimum Wage Committee, Mr Elijah Evenemi, distanced the latest achievement from political affiliation.

Evenemi appreciated the governor for allowing the committee to operate without interference, which according to him helped them to achieve the goal.

Reacting to the announcement, the Association of Local Government Secretaries of Nigeria, Kogi State Chapter, thanked Governor Ododo for prioritizing the welfare of civil servants in the state.

The association stated that the salary increase would make their work easier, especially considering the current situation in the country, and also pledged their continued support for the governor.
