The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has declared that Nigerians residing in the country will pay the sum of N1000 for the National Identification Number (NIN) verification fee for application, issuance and renewal of international passports.
The Commission made the disclosure in a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications of the NIMC, Kayode Adegoke which was made available to newsmen.
Investors King reports that for Nigerians who reside in other African countries, their pay for NIN verification fee is $3 or its equivalent in other currencies while those in other continents across the world will pay $10 or its equivalent in other countries for the NIN verification before their application and renewal of international passports can be approved.
The NIN service, fees, and the new international passport processes are scheduled to commence on 1st of April, 2023.
Adegoke noted that the latest stipulated fee was an arrangement from the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy as part of its efforts to improve and simplify the whole process of passport application, renewal, and issuance.
According to him, the new development is in partnership with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to make the passport processes easier and faster for Nigerians.
The statement read partly, “NIMC wishes to inform the general public that it has devised and agreed on a framework with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to significantly improve the quality of service, accuracy, and speed of passport services through the timely verification of the National Identification Number (NIN).
“NIMC and NIS have agreed on a revised applicant journey that will significantly improve the speed of passport issuance/re-issuance and reduce the traffic visiting the NIS office(s). The NIN service, fees, and the new NIS process will go live on 1st April 2023.”
