Trump Catching Up as Joe Biden Leads in the Race to the White House

Joe Biden is presently leading President Donald Trump in the race to the White House, according to poll results.

The former Vice President of the United States of America has won 236 electoral colleges compared to 213 won by President Donald Trump.

While the race to the White House remained far from finished, President Trump appeared to be catching up from the previous 118 electoral colleges to the current 213.

On the other hand, Joe Biden appeared to be slowing down in pace given it has reached 209 electoral colleges when Trump was at 118. Therefore, he has only managed to add 27 while Trump has added 95 electoral colleges.

On headcount, Joe Biden is leading with 67.263 million votes while Trump is trailing him with 65.519 million votes as shown below.

What is an Electoral College?

This is why the American presidential election is very unique and the reason why the most votes do not win elections but the largest electoral college.

In a simple term, an electoral college is a set of electors elected to elect a candidate to a particular office. Meaning, Americans are voting to elect electors who in turn will elect their president into office.

Let us break it down further, the United States has 538 total electoral colleges, therefore, for a candidate to win, either Joe Biden or Donald Trump will need to win a total of 270 electorates to emerge the President of the United States.

Joe Biden needs another 34 to win the entire race while President Trump needs an additional 57 to win the race to the White House for a second term in the office.

President Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the last election despite Clinton leading with over 3 million votes, President Trump won with more than 77 electors.
