FG Plans to Inject N600bn into Agriculture Sector
The Federal Government has set to support the Agricultural sector with over N600bn as a stimulus-response to the sector.
This was disclosed by Sabo Nanono, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, during a tour of Dangote Fertiliser Plant and a meeting with other fertiliser companies in Lagos on Sunday.
Nanono said the fund would be aimed at small scale farmers to ensure food security and sustainability.
He explained that the N600bn would start with 2.4 million farmers in the first instance.
He further explained that in order to avoid misappropriation of government funds and good intentions, the support would come in the form of inputs and not cash as was practiced in the past.
The minister added that the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, had made it known that Nigeria could conveniently and sustainably feed itself.
Nanono guaranteed to support the farming communities in Lagos with solar lighting, rural roads, and water boreholes to empower them to increase production.
