The world will witness the biggest divorce and wealth transfer in history after Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos finalized their divorce settlement in a few days.

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com and the world’s richest man, currently worth $120 billion, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, has agreed to give his wife of 25 years, Mackenzie Bezos, 25 percent of his Amazon.com Inc’s stake.

The 25 percent is presently estimated at $38 billion and will be the world’s highest divorce settlement once the judge signs the agreement later this month.

“This is the Godzilla of all divorces,” said Peter Walzer, president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and founding partner of Walzer Melcher. “Nothing comes close to it because of the amount of wealth that’s being divided.”

While Jeff would still retain his right to vote with the total 12 percent stake in Amazon.com still under his name, the agreement will, however, recognize Mackenzie as the owner of 25 percent of the total Amazon.com stake.

The settlement and the disclosure detailing the shift in ownership will be announced in the first half of this month, according to a court filing seen in April.

The disclosure, as required by the U.S Securities and Exchange Commission for public listed companies, will further throw light on the world’s richest divorce.

Jeff Bezos, 55, will retain other assets like the space-exploration company, Blue Origin and Washington Post, MacKenzie Bezos, 49, stated in a tweet in April.

The soon to be the third richest woman in the world said she intends to give away most of her wealth. In May, she signed the Giving Pledge, promising to donate more than half of fortune to philanthropy.

“I won’t wait,” she wrote in her pledge. “And I will keep at it until the safe is empty.”
