- FAAN to Automate Payment System at Airports
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria says it will soon commence cashless transactions across airports in the country.
According to the agency, this will ease the process of payment, create options and improve the speed and convenience of transactions at the airports.
The General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, told journalists on Wednesday that all necessary arrangements had been made for the smooth commencement of the exercise across the country in a short time.
Yakubu stated, “The cashless transactions will reduce the carrying of cash as transactions will be made in different ways such as Point of Sales and money transfers. Remita agents have also been positioned strategically at various points across the airports.
“The initiative is designed under the Presidential Enabling Environment Business Council to ensure convenience and curb corruption. Car parks, cargo sections, charter and unscheduled flights, among others, will be affected by this development.”
She said the process would help FAAN to eliminate leakages and further increase its revenue base, adding that the sensitisation of the general public through jingles had also commenced.
“No government official will handle cash during transactions when the exercise takes off. We are soliciting the cooperation of all airport users, concessionaires and the general public to ensure a hitch-free exercise,” she added.
Yakubu said the decision to adopt digital payment system was as a result of the success of the Executive Order of the Federal Government to create enabling business environment in the country, especially at the airports as entry points.
According to her, visa issuance on arrival, which has commenced at the airports, is also part of the ease of doing business.
“The digital payment is another feat to be achieved. At the end, it will be a win-win situation for both FAAN and the customers,” she added.
