President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, are scheduled to speak on the economy at the forthcoming Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria’s annual Banking and Finance conference.
According to a statement by the institute, the conference will focus on the challenges facing the economy including the banking sector and how they could be addressed.
The conference, which has the theme: ‘Innovation in the financial services industry: Driving Nigeria’s new economy’, will in Abuja hold next.
The President, CIBN, Prof. Segun Ajibola, in the statement, said the forum would attract key stakeholders in the financial services sector and the economy.
The forum, he said, would be used as a veritable platform to discuss burning issues affecting critical sectors of the economy.
According to Ajibola, Buhari is the distinguished guest of honour at the event while Emefiele is slated to deliver the keynote address.
The CIBN president said topics such as import substitution and strategies; innovative financing structures for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises; and payments system and financial inclusion, will be examined among other fundamental issues.
The statement quoted him as saying, “The conference has become the flagship event of the institute, hosted annually to provide a platform for all stakeholders, namely policy makers, regulators, operators and clients in the financial services industry to share experiences and exchange ideas on contemporary issues affecting the sector and the economy as a whole.
