In a move toward enhanced efficiency, transparency, and reduced corruption, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is preparing to introduce electronic ticketing for the standard gauge network.

This was disclosed by the Managing Director of NRC, Fidet Okhiria ahead of the upcoming launch scheduled for next week.

Okhiria explained that the e-ticketing platform has undergone extensive testing with the final phase set to conclude soon.

Following successful trials, the system will initially be available to a select audience before being extended to the general public.

One of the significant benefits of the e-ticketing system is its direct revenue channel to the government’s treasury. This approach is poised to significantly diminish the potential for corruption and revenue leakage, aligning with broader efforts to enhance transparency in financial transactions.

The inaugural rollout of the e-ticketing system will be implemented on the popular Abuja-Kaduna route, known for its substantial passenger traffic.

In the subsequent phases, this innovative solution will extend to cover other pivotal routes, including Lagos-Ibadan and Itakpe-Warri, offering passengers a seamless and technologically advanced means of acquiring their tickets.

This move underscores the Nigerian Railway Corporation’s commitment to embracing modernization and digitalization to provide commuters with a convenient and reliable rail transportation experience.

As the digital era continues to unfold in Nigeria, the introduction of e-ticketing for the railway network is set to be a significant step forward in achieving a more efficient and accountable public transportation system.
