Amazon Web Services Opens Office in Lagos, First in West Africa

Multinational Tech Company, Amazon Web services (AWS) has opened an office in Lagos State, the company’s first in West Africa and second in Sub Sahara Africa.

Amazon Web Services is a subsidiary of Amazon Incorporated. It offers several services which include website hosting, cloud backup, digital marketing, analytics, application integration, blockchain technology, and networking to individuals, companies, and government institutions. 

According to a statement released by the AWS regional manager (Sub Sahara Africa), Ms. Amrote Abdella, the Lagos office is a testimony to the company’s commitment to the African market, particularly to Nigeria where several startups have sprung up in the past years. 

The regional manager recalled that the last time AWS launched an office in Sub Sahara Africa was in 2017, situated in Johannesburg, South Africa. 

Amrote Abdella further noted that the Lagos office will support its growing customers and partners in Nigeria. She added that AWS will support startups and enterprises of different sizes in their drive for digital integration.

“We are excited to open our first AWS office in Nigeria. Lagos offers a highly skilled and creative talent pool, and the area is home to many fast-growing startups and notable Nigerian enterprises leading the way in digital innovation,” she stated. 

Investors King learnt that Amazon Web Services provides credit facility of up to $100,000 to startups while it also offers training, and support and connects startups to indicators, accelerators, and venture capitals. 

Meanwhile, industry experts have analysed the impact of Amazon Cloud Services office in Lagos. 

A number of experts and observers have explained that the new AWS office situated in Lagos State will enhance digital adoption in the country, accelerate startup growth, and also contributes to the country’s economy. 

Already, the global market for cloud computing services is on the rise with a valuation of $480 billion in 2022 with the potential to reach $1.5 trillion in 2030. 

With this, the establishment of an AWS Nigeria office, therefore, portrays an enormous market and economic potential for the country.
