MTN Nigeria Pays N757.7 Billion in Taxes, Levies, Fees and Duties

MTN Nigeria Communications Plc on Monday said it paid a total of N757.7 billion in taxes, levies, fees and duties to the Federal Government in the 2021 fiscal year.

The amount paid comprises direct and indirect payments, the leading telecommunications giant disclosed in a statement signed by Uto Ukpanah, Company Secretary, MTN Nigeria.

Breaking down the total direct remittances made to the Federal Inland Revenue Service in 2021, MTN said it paid N98.992 billion in value-added tax on revenue.

The firm also paid N71.179 billion in withholding tax while companies income tax paid in the period stood at N99.287 billion.

The company paid N8.477 billion in stamp duties and another N10.644 billion in tertiary education tax. The information technology levy paid was N3.092 billion. Bringing the total direct remittance in 2021 to N291.673 billion.

In the statement, MTN Nigeria said “MTN Nigeria is a tax compliant organisation with all its tax obligations settled. This is backed by the Federal Inland Revenue Service’s testimonial naming the Company one of the most tax compliant organisations in Nigeria for the year 2021.”

“The company is committeed to paying all taxes due and on time and has zero tolerance for non-compliance. The above is to clarify the information previously released by MTN Nigeria.
