NIPOST Deploys Security and Surveillance Teams to Curb Scam Mails in Post Offices

The Nigerian Postal Service on Friday said it has inaugurated surveillance teams to improve mail security and curb scam mails in major post offices.

Ismail Adewusi, the Post-Master General of the Federation, disclosed this during the occasion of the 2020 World Post Day celebration in Abuja.

This came after Isa Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, unveiled the stamp compendium of NIPOST in commemoration of the Post Day.

According to Adewusi, the new security measure was part of efforts to curb the activities of criminals who use post offices to execute dubious business transactions.

He said a scanning machine installed at the International Mail Processing Centre in Ikeja, Lagos has been detecting large volumes of out-bound posted materials with prohibited items.

Adewusi, however, admitted that it was impossible to claim a 100 percent success rate in the fight against fraudulent activities in the agency.

He said, “As part of efforts to check the activities of fraudsters who use the post office to carry out dubious business transactions, we have put in place surveillance teams in all major post offices across the country.

“They are to oversee the processing, bagging and dispatching of both local and international mail items.”
