- PH DISCO Goes Cashless; Introduces POS Payment of Electricity Bills
The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, says it has introduced On-The-Spot (OSP) collection of electricity bills.
The move which was revealed by the company in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, was made to improve customer satisfaction, provide more payment points and ensure compliance to Cashless Policy.
Following the disclosure, PHED customers in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Cross Rivers states will no longer have to visit PHED offices or banks to effect payments of electricity bills.
The Chief Executive Officer, PHED, Naveen Kapoor explained that authorized agents will visit customers in their homes with Point of Sale (POS) Terminals for cashless payment of electricity bills.
He said, “PHED, as a technologically driven company is always concerned about how best top engender customer satisfaction at all times.”
“This we believe will lead to database improvement through, ‘Know-Your-Customers’ concept as well as increase pay points, motivate workforce and effective process monitoring.”
According to him, PHED is the first Electricity Distribution Company in Nigeria to introduce POS collection of electricity bills in the country.
Kapoor said, “OTSC, an initiative with proven success in India that has similar demands like Nigeria was conceived by the FEDCO; an Indian technical partner to PHED.”
“So authorized staff will visit customers with Point Of Sale machines at their door steps for seamless collection of payments; especially for post-paid metered customers.”
“PHED has over 513,000 customers and 324,787 active post-paid metered or Non-Maximum Demand customers-which is a huge market for us”.
Kapoor, however, advised customers not to divulge details of their cards to POS collection agents or accept receipts without the PHED logo.
