There was obvious panic withdrawal by customers at the only branch of Polaris Bank that opened for business in Osogbo, Osun State capital, on Wednesday.

Recall that the bank was shut last Friday following an order of Justice Jide Falola of an Osun State High Court sitting in Ikirun, the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

While the branch of the bank in Gbongan Road, Osogbo, opened for business, other branches of the bank at Fagbewesa and Alekuwodo areas of the state capital did not open.

Automated Teller Machine in Alekuwodo branch was working and customers were seen using it for transaction.

As at 3:30pm when our correspondent left the premises of the only Polaris Bank branch that opened for business, the entire banking hall was filled and the long queue of customers waiting to be attended to spilled into the premises.

It was also observed that the bank closed for the day by 3pm and heavily armed policemen were seen in the premises.

In an interview with our correspondent, a customer, Mrs Tolani Oyewusi, said, “When I was informed by my friend who owns a shop close to the bank here that they opened for business today, I left everything I was doing to come and withdraw my money.”

Another customer, who preferred to be identified simply as Cornelius, said the workers attended to customers promptly, saying he was apprehensive when the bank did not open for business for three consecutive working days.
