- Boko Haram Kills 13 in Konduga, Borno
Konduga, a town in Borno have suffered an attack from the notorious Boko Haram sect, as 13 people were killed and 2 villages plundered overnight.
The Acting General Officer Commanding the Nigerian Army 7 Division, Brig. Gen. Bulama Biu confirmed the attack on Thursday in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri.
The Commanding Officer pointed out that troops rose to the scene and fought against the insurgents who at several times in the past years, had attacked the Konduga Local Government communities.
Also, the Commanding Officer remarked that he had visited the communities attacked; Bularin and Kofa, as well as camps housing thousands of displaced people in the communities.
“I was there. We recovered one dead body and saw burnt houses. Troops have been following up on the attackers,” the Brigadier General said.
A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force, Alfred Audu, who was present at the time of the attack, said that the rebels battled the army, in an attempt to force their way into the communities.
Again, Alfred Audu said, the insurgents were, however, restrained when the fighter jets were deployed to confront them.
Another witness of the attack, who gave his name as Alhaji Modu, said that hundreds of the armed insurgents on vehicles, attacked the communities around 7:45 p.m.
Also, Modu said that the rebels launched a massive attack and forced their way into IDP camps, set homes on fire; killed 9 people in the Bularin IDP camp and 3 other people in the Kofa IDP camp.
“They burnt down the village market, shops, houses, animals and vehicles. Many people died in the attack while others are still missing.
“Bularin village was razed and several tents in the camp destroyed. Many people were displaced in the attack,” Modu pointed out.
The notorious Boko Haram sect, launched its deadly campaign in 2009, vowing to enthrone a strict Islamic code in Nigeria.
The insurgents, have overtime attacked various communities in northern Nigeria, especially the country’s spacious northeast.
The Federal Government however in several occasions, has said that the sect has been defeated; although it is obvious to the eyes, that the group has been throwing deadly punches over the years.
