- Gridlock Paralyses Movement on Lagos-Abeokuta Road
Vehicular movements on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway were on Sunday evening nearly grounded to a halt owing to gridlock.
Our correspondent, who visited the scene, observed gridlock on both lanes of the road. The gridlock was caused by the bad condition of the road which was worsened by the downpour which had been continual for no fewer than three days.
The palliative work carried out by Julius Berger Plc on both lanes around Owode-Iyana Ilogbo axis had gone bad again due to the downpour.
Again, some drivers of vehicles coming from Ifo-Abeokuta end drove against traffic, which further compounded the problem.
For those travelling outside Lagos from the Sango end, the gridlock led to long queues of vehicles stretching from Sango to Iyana Ilogbo axis.
And for those travelling to Sango and Lagos, the traffic stretched from Onihale to Iyana Ilogbo, where a stretch of the road had failed on both sides.
No traffic officer was seen at the scene as motorists struggle to manoeuvre out of the gridlock.
