Sixteen years after the Nigeria Reinsurance Corporation was privatised by the Federal Government, relief has come the way of 284 of its retired workers as they have been enrolled on the pension payroll.

The enrolment was done by the Pension Transition Arrangement Department.

The PTAD confirmed the development in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.

The statement said already, the 284 retired workers of the company had been added to the monthly pension payroll of the government, adding that the sum of N8.31m was paid to them in July.

The statement quoted the Executive Secretary, PTAD, Sharon Ikeazor, to have said that with the enrolment on the payroll, the retirees would start receiving their pensions for life.

She said, “No pensioner or retiree, after serving their fatherland, should ever be forced into the indignity and painful uncertainty of delayed pensions.

“Today, Nigeria Reinsurance pensioners verified by the PTAD Nigeria, has been placed on the monthly pension payroll. It is indeed a promise kept.”

Ikeazor commended the PTAD team for the dedication to fulfil the mandate of the directorate and reiterated President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to pensioners’ welfare.

She also assured the pensioners that the pension arrears would be cleared as funds were allocated and released to the agency for payment.
