- 5.2 Million Nigerians in Northeast Need Food Aid – UN
Years old unrest in the North-East Nigeria have left millions of displaced people at risk of starving to death.
The recent report showed the number of people who need food aid climbed by 11 percent to 5.2 million in the three months through June, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization.
According to the United Nations: “The ongoing lean season is contributing to a deterioration in food insecurity in northeastern Nigeria, in the three most affected states.”
The three most affected regions include Borno, where Boko Haram has waged war since 2009 to impose its Islamic law. Others are Yobe and Adamawa.
The militants have bombed the regions and seized more than 200 school girls in Africa’s most populous nation and reportedly killed tens of thousands.
