The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Wednesday, passed the state’s 2017 appropriation bill of N69.9 billion into law.

The Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, announced the passage of the bill during the house proceeding in Lafia.

Balarabe-Abdullahi commended his colleagues for passing the budget into law, urging them to closely monitor the implementation of the fiscal policy for effective result so as to improve on the standard of living of the people of the state.

“We are here pass in to law the 2017 bill to authorise the issue from the consolidated revenue funds of the state the total sum of N69,971,427,596 of which N31,347,679,220 is for capital expenditure while N38,623,748,376 is for recurrent expenditure

“The House of Assembly has raised the state 2017 appropriation bill of by N2.9billion from N67.1 billion presented to the house by Governor Tanko Al-Makura for consideration and approval to N69.9billion.

“The upward review in the budget was to take care in some vital areas of the 2017 budget to enable the state government provide the much needed dividend of democracy to the electorates,” he said.

Balarabe-Abdullahi urged ministries/boards and parastatals to ensure strict adherence to the budget provision in the interest of peace and for the socio-economic development of the state

He assured the people of the state of lawmakers readiness to partner with the executive in order to achieve speedy development in the state, and solicited the people support to enable him succeed.

The Minority Leader of the House, Mohammed Alkali (PDP-Lafia North), seconded the motion for speedy passage of the bill.

Recall that on December 15, 2016 Al-Makura presented the 2017 budget proposal of N67.1billion to the State House of Assembly for consideration.
