The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has assured Nigerians of the availability of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, during the festive season and beyond.

The assurance came after the successful signing of a new supply deal between Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals, aimed at preventing petrol shortages across the country.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by PETROAN’s National Public Relations Officer, Dr. Joseph Obele, the oil marketers commended the efforts of the Vice President of Dangote Group and Managing Director of Dangote Refinery, Mr. Devakumar V.G. Edwin, in addressing fuel scarcity.

According to Obele, while the specific terms and conditions of the agreement will remain confidential, Nigerians stand to benefit significantly from the deal, which promises the availability of petrol at affordable rates during the festive period.

The statement read: “We reserve the right not to make public the business terms and conditions, even as we express optimism that the greatest beneficiaries will be the general public in terms of product availability and affordability.”

Highlighting the significance of the partnership, PETROAN assured Nigerians of uninterrupted petrol supply, saying, “The National Headquarters of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) in Abuja has expressed confidence that the measures put in place, including the commencement of production at the Port Harcourt refinery and successful discussions with the management of Dangote Refinery, will avert fuel supply shortages during and after the festive season.”

Obele further noted: “This outcome is a result of the efforts of PETROAN’s distribution technical committee, which is responsible for planning and executing the zero-fuel-scarcity strategy. We are delighted that Nigerians will travel effortlessly during this time of the year.”

The retailers also cautioned against unsafe practices, emphasizing: “PETROAN dismisses any concerns about fuel scarcity and strongly advises against panic buying. It is unsafe and dangerous to store petroleum products at home.”

Calling for support from industry stakeholders, Obele added: “PETROAN urges stakeholders in the downstream sector to support the management of NNPC Retail Ltd and Dangote Refinery to sustain the supply of petroleum products.”

Reiterating the association’s commitment to ending fuel scarcity, he concluded: “We hereby reassure Nigerians of PETROAN’s preparedness to ensure zero fuel scarcity during the festive season and beyond. All our retail outlet operators across Nigeria have been placed on high alert to maintain seamless service.”
