The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has launched a new initiative offering a 50% discount to Nigerian drivers who convert their vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) using the newly introduced MY-CNG App.

The initiative is part of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative’s Conversion Incentive Programme, which was launched at NASENI’s CNG Engineering, Training, and Conversion facility in Utako, Abuja.

Presiding over the launch, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Khalil Halilu, emphasized the initiative’s potential to transform Nigeria’s transportation sector.

“CNG is not only a cleaner and more environmentally friendly vehicle fuel but also has the potential to significantly reduce transportation costs by up to 70%, offering 40% savings for car owners,” Halilu stated.

The Conversion Incentive Programme specifically targets the rideshare sector, including drivers for platforms such as Uber and Bolt.

By signing up for the MY-CNG App, these drivers can take advantage of the 50% discount, making the transition to CNG more accessible and cost-effective.

Halilu highlighted that the initiative is a strategic response to the current economic challenges facing Nigerians, offering a practical solution to reduce the cost of living.

“This program is designed to alleviate some of the financial pressures on drivers, while also contributing to the nation’s broader goals of energy diversification and environmental sustainability,” he said.

The launch event, attended by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperipe Ekpo, and other key stakeholders, underscored the importance of collaboration in driving Nigeria’s energy future.

Partners such as Pi-CNG, Portland, and Dana Motors were commended for their dedication to the success of the initiative.

Halilu concluded by stating that the introduction of the MY-CNG App and the Conversion Incentive Programme reflects NASENI’s commitment to leveraging technology for national transformation.

“This initiative marks a significant step forward in our efforts to harness the benefits of CNG and make it more accessible to all Nigerians,” he added.

The new discount program is expected to accelerate the adoption of CNG in Nigeria, reducing the country’s reliance on traditional fossil fuels and paving the way for a more sustainable energy future.

As more drivers take advantage of the 50% discount, the initiative is poised to have a lasting impact on both the economy and the environment.
