Harris Narrows Gap with Trump in Latest Polls

Kamala Harris has significantly closed the gap with Donald Trump in the race for the presidency.

Following her announcement to run after Joe Biden stepped down, seven national polls show Harris narrowing the Democratic deficit by almost half.

A Wall Street Journal poll even places Harris in a statistical tie with Trump, signaling a shift in voter sentiment. A New York Times/Siena poll reveals Harris has gained 6 to 7 percentage points, boosted by increased support among key demographics.

Black voter support for Harris stands at 69%, up from Biden’s 59%, and her backing among Hispanic voters has climbed to 57% from 45%.

These changes have invigorated Democratic enthusiasm, with 81% of Harris voters expressing excitement, compared to just 37% for Biden a month ago. This surge in enthusiasm is crucial as the campaign heats up.

Trump’s favorability rose after a failed assassination attempt, yet his post-convention bounce was muted by Biden’s departure. Trump’s team acknowledged Harris’ early bump, anticipating it to influence the polls temporarily.

Swing state surveys by Emerson College indicate Harris performing 3 to 4 percentage points better than Biden did previously.

While Harris still trails Trump slightly in overall averages, her rapid gains underscore a dynamic and evolving race.

As both campaigns intensify their efforts, these shifts highlight the unpredictable nature of the current political landscape, setting the stage for a closely contested election.
