The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has disclosed that Emirates Airlines is on the brink of unveiling the long-anticipated date for the resumption of its flights into Nigeria.
Minister Keyamo conveyed this information through his official Twitter handle on Sunday.
Emirates suspended flight operations into Nigeria due to challenges in repatriating funds from ticket sales.
Despite recent efforts to address the issue of trapped funds, a substantial portion of the $783 million remained inaccessible to foreign airlines operating in Nigeria.
During his attendance at the Dubai Airshow last week, Minister Keyamo engaged in productive discussions with the top leadership of Emirates Airlines.
He described the talks as warm and fruitful, signaling significant progress in efforts to resume flights from Dubai to Nigeria.
Keyamo emphasized the dedication of all parties involved in reaching an agreement, highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s pivotal role in championing the initiative.
He expressed confidence that the collaborative efforts would soon yield a positive outcome, leading to the announcement of the exact date for the resumption of Emirates flights.
This development is anticipated to bring relief to travelers eagerly awaiting the reopening of this crucial international route.
“We are presently working on the small details, and the airline will soon announce the exact date of their resumption of the flights,” said Minister Keyamo.
