NRS Launches Ideas Gateway Portal to Track Public Submissions

on

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has launched its Ideas Gateway Portal, a digital platform designed to allow members of the public and other stakeholders to submit proposals for improving the country’s tax administration system.

The portal, available at ideasgateway.nrs.gov.ng, enables users to send innovative ideas directly to the revenue agency and monitor each submission throughout the review process.

According to the NRS, the initiative is intended to strengthen transparency, encourage collaboration and provide a structured channel through which taxpayers and other stakeholders can contribute to institutional reforms.

The tracking feature could address a common weakness in public-sector consultation, where individuals and businesses submit proposals without receiving information about whether their recommendations were reviewed, accepted or rejected.

For businesses, the platform provides an opportunity to identify operational challenges associated with tax registration, electronic invoicing, payments, filing, compliance and interaction with revenue officials.

Its launch comes as the NRS expands the use of technology across Nigeria’s tax system.

The agency recently commenced compliance monitoring for large taxpayers under the National E-Invoicing and Electronic Fiscal System regime with affected companies expected to complete implementation by July 31, 2026.

The Ideas Gateway could help the NRS receive direct feedback as businesses adapt their accounting and invoice-processing systems to the new requirements.

However, the portal’s value will depend on implementation as the agency will need to demonstrate that submissions are reviewed promptly, progress updates are meaningful and credible proposals influence policy or operational decisions.

Clear review timelines, published assessment criteria and periodic disclosure of adopted ideas would further strengthen confidence in the system.
