The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned Chief Mike Agbedor Abu Ozekhome, SAN, alongside Ponfa Useni before Justice C.N. Oji of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, Abuja, in connection with allegations relating to the use of falsified travel documentation to support a property claim in the United Kingdom.
The anti-graft agency filed a 12-count amended charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence.
The matter also references General Jeremiah Useni, now deceased, in relation to events said to have occurred in Abuja within the court’s jurisdiction.
During proceedings, prosecuting counsel Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, informed the court of an amended charge dated February 25, 2026, requesting that it replace an earlier charge filed on February 24, 2026.
The prosecution also tendered accompanying proof of evidence and urged the court to invite the defendants to enter their pleas.
The charges allege that the defendants acted in concert to produce and deploy a Nigerian international passport bearing the name “Tali Shani,” purportedly issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service, with the intention of asserting ownership over a residential property located at 79 Randall Avenue, London NW2, United Kingdom.
The prosecution maintains that the document was falsely made and subsequently presented as genuine in furtherance of that claim.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty when the amended counts were read in open court.
Following the plea, the prosecution indicated readiness to proceed to trial and requested that the court grant the matter priority hearing, citing public interest considerations and the need for expeditious resolution.
Reference was made to relevant provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice framework governing criminal proceedings.
Counsel to the first defendant, Tayo Oyetibo, SAN, acknowledged the prosecution’s decision not to oppose bail applications and assured the court of cooperation toward an accelerated hearing schedule.
He applied for bail on self-recognition for his client, citing professional standing, longstanding legal practice and fixed residence within Abuja.
The court adjourned the matter for further proceedings.
