Tony Elumelu Joins Seplat Energy Board Following Ownership Transition

Published

Tony Elumelu has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Seplat Energy Plc, a key board-level change following the recent shift in the company’s shareholder structure.

The appointment takes effect from January 22, 2026, and follows the exit of Etablissements Maurel et Prom SA from Seplat Energy’s shareholding.

The French energy company had previously held a 20.07 percent stake, which was acquired by entities linked to Heirs Holdings and Heirs Energies.

As part of the transition, Mr. Olivier Cleret De Langavant stepped down from the board on the same date, ending a tenure that began in 2020 when he joined as a nominee director representing Maurel et Prom. His exit aligns with the completion of the ownership realignment.

Tony Elumelu’s appointment introduces direct shareholder representation at board level following the change in equity ownership.

He is the Founder and Chairman of Heirs Holdings, a diversified investment platform with interests across energy, power, banking, insurance, technology, real estate, hospitality, and healthcare.

He also chairs United Bank for Africa, Heirs Energies, and the Transcorp Group, which has operations spanning power generation and hospitality.

His business activities position him as a significant figure in Nigeria’s energy and infrastructure landscape.

Seplat Energy’s board reconstitution is viewed as a governance adjustment aligned with its evolving ownership base. Market participants expect the change to reinforce strategic continuity, particularly as the company expands its gas portfolio and deepens its role in Nigeria’s domestic energy supply chain.

Seplat Energy is listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited and the London Stock Exchange, with operations focused on oil and gas production, processing, and export infrastructure in the Niger Delta.

The company said the board changes take immediate effect, with governance structures remaining intact as Seplat Energy continues to execute its long-term growth strategy.
