Financial, Consumer Stocks Lift NGX 0.55% in Year-End Trading

The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) closed higher on Monday as strong buying interest in financial services and consumer stocks lifted the benchmark index, extending the market’s year-end rally.

The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) gained 0.55% to close at 154,389.53 points, while equity market capitalisation increased to ₦98.43 trillion.

Market Activity Overview

Trading activity was robust, supported by heavy volumes in large-cap banking stocks. A total of 1.47 billion shares valued at ₦35.54 billion were exchanged in 47,892 deals.

The bond market capitalisation stood at ₦51.43 trillion, while exchange-traded funds (ETFs) closed with a combined market value of ₦43.56 billion.

Buying interest was strongest in financial, industrial, and consumer stocks:

  • Austin Laz & Company Plc gained 10.00% to close at ₦3.52

  • Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) advanced 10.00% to ₦41.80

  • Eunisell Interlinked Plc rose 9.95% to ₦96.70

  • Honeywell Flour Mills Plc added 9.86% to ₦19.50

  • Guinness Nigeria Plc appreciated 9.82% to close at ₦349.90

Losses were recorded mainly in insurance, manufacturing, and fixed-income-linked instruments:

  • FGS UK 2031 Series 4 declined 14.43% to ₦77.00

  • International Energy Insurance Plc fell 10.00% to ₦2.34

  • Meyer Plc dropped 9.92% to ₦11.80

  • eTranzact International Plc shed 9.92% to ₦11.35

  • Livestock Feeds Plc lost 9.60% to ₦5.65
