President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Nigerian Senate for its swift confirmation of General Christopher G. Musa as the new Minister of Defence following the transmission of his nomination earlier in the week.
The President stated that the nomination of General Musa, who recently completed his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, reflects a strategic decision taken at a critical period in Nigeria’s national security landscape.
General Musa previously led the Armed Forces at a time of heightened security challenges across multiple regions, and his appointment is expected to support the administration’s ongoing efforts to stabilise the security environment.
President Tinubu acknowledged the Senate’s expedited consideration and approval of the ministerial nominee, noting that the prompt legislative action aligns with the urgency required to strengthen national defence leadership.
He described General Musa as a disciplined officer and expressed confidence in his capacity to provide decisive oversight of the defence sector.
The President reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to enhancing national security architecture, improving inter-agency coordination, and supporting the Armed Forces with the resources required to execute their mandate.
He emphasised the importance of steady leadership in the Ministry of Defence at a time when the country continues to address terrorism, insurgency, banditry and emerging security threats.
President Tinubu concluded by expressing his goodwill to the Nigerian Armed Forces and reaffirming his dedication to protecting the sovereignty and stability of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
