First Bank of Nigeria Limited has announced its partnership with the organizers of the E1 Lagos GP, Africa’s first all-electric powerboat racing championship, scheduled to hold from October 3 to 5, 2025.
The announcement was made at the E1 Lagos GP Stakeholder Immersion session in Lagos, where the Bank reaffirmed its commitment to advancing sports and developmental initiatives across Nigeria.
Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications at FirstBank, said the Bank’s participation underscores its long-standing investment in platforms that foster human development.
“Our involvement in the E1 Lagos GP is about driving legacy and enabling the passions and aspirations that unite Nigerians. We are a bank that has been in business for over 131 years and we recognize that sports drives us as a country, which is why through our First@Sports initiative, we continue to invest in platforms that inspire and elevate our people,” Ijabiyi stated.
FirstBank has a long history of supporting legacy sporting events, including the Georgian Polo Cup for over 105 years and the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship for more than six decades.
The Bank’s sponsorship of the E1 Lagos GP extends this tradition while creating new touchpoints with its customers.
The Lagos race is part of the global E1 Championship season, with teams owned by prominent international figures including Tom Brady, LeBron James, Didier Drogba, Rafael Nadal, Will Smith, Marc Anthony, and Steve Aoki.
The season will conclude in Miami, United States, later in 2025.
Aligning the event with its annual DecemberIssaVybe initiative, FirstBank aims to provide customers with experiences that merge culture, entertainment, and lifestyle.
“FirstBank is deeply woven into the fabric of society and the lives of our customers. As presenting partner, we are creating meaningful touchpoints with customers and prospects, offering them a world-class experience of relaxation and celebration that captures the true essence of Lagos during the festive season,” Ijabiyi added.
Gbenga Omotoso, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, commended the partnership, noting that the initiative will not only grow sports in Nigeria but also showcase Lagos as a vibrant cultural and global hub.
The E1 Lagos GP is expected to attract significant global attention, reinforcing Nigeria’s positioning in international sports while advancing sustainable innovation through electric-powered competition.
