Nigerian Equities Market Gains 2.35% as Turnover Surges to N115.4 Billion

The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) posted a strong performance for the week ended June 20, 2025, as the All-Share Index (ASI) and market capitalization appreciated by 2.35% and 2.40% to close at 118,138.22 points and N74.534 trillion, respectively.

The rally was supported by increased trading activity across key sectors, particularly in the Financial Services and Consumer Goods industries.

A total turnover of 3.566 billion shares worth N115.403 billion was traded in 99,960 deals, compared to 2.057 billion shares valued at N51.015 billion exchanged in 65,016 deals the previous week.

Sector Performance

The Financial Services Industry led by volume, recording 2.166 billion shares valued at N62.046 billion in 45,851 deals. This accounted for 60.73% and 53.76% of the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.

The Consumer Goods Industry followed with 580.893 million shares worth N10.896 billion in 10,909 deals, while the Services Industry recorded 193.300 million shares valued at N2.449 billion in 6,306 deals.

Top Traded Equities

Zenith Bank Plc, Champion Breweries Plc, and Access Holdings Plc emerged as the top three equities traded by volume, accounting for 1.003 billion shares worth N26.076 billion in 14,232 deals. These represented 28.14% and 22.60% of the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.

Market Breadth

Fifty-five (55) equities appreciated in price during the week, unchanged from the previous week. However, forty-two (42) equities declined, up from thirty-nine (39) in the prior week while fifty-one (51) equities remained unchanged, slightly below fifty-four (54) in the preceding week.

The bond market recorded 106,836 units valued at ₦104.905 million in 58 deals, higher than the previous week’s 38,597 units valued at ₦37.536 million in 20 deals. Top trades included FGSUK2031S4 and FGSUK2033S6.

Index Performance Summary

All major sectoral indices closed in positive territory except the NGX Industrial Goods Index, which declined by 0.36%, and the NGX Sovereign Bond Index, which fell 0.78%. The NGX ASeM Index closed flat.
