Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc has formally announced the retirement of two non-executive directors, Ms. Maryam Bashir and Professor Konyinsola Ajayi, SAN, from its Board of Directors.
The retirement of both directors will take effect on June 16, 2025.
In a material disclosure filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), the company stated that the decision was in line with corporate governance principles and long-term succession planning, emphasizing that both individuals served with distinction and dedication throughout their tenure.
Ms. Maryam Bashir, described as an experienced finance and investment professional, brought strategic insight to the company’s business development and risk management functions. She served as Chairperson of the Board Risk Management & Assurance Committee and represented the Board on the Statutory Audit Committee. Her tenure saw notable contributions to the company’s Backward Integration Projects and overall strategic growth.
Professor Konyinsola Ajayi, SAN, a renowned legal expert in the areas of Energy, Infrastructure, Banking, and Capital Markets, also steps down after years of impactful service. He previously chaired the Board Governance Committee and provided legal oversight on key transactions and compliance matters. His guidance, particularly on regulatory and governance issues, has been instrumental in reinforcing the company’s corporate structure.
The Board expressed its appreciation for the directors’ professional conduct, commitment, and significant contributions to Dangote Sugar’s operational and strategic direction.
“The Board of Directors of Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc. expresses its sincere appreciation to Ms. Bashir and Prof. Ajayi, SAN for their invaluable contributions to the growth and strategic direction of the Company and wishes them continued success in their future endeavours,” the notice stated.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to sound corporate governance, transparency, and leadership continuity, adding that future board appointments will align with its long-term objectives and regulatory requirements.
This development comes as Dangote Sugar continues to strengthen its operational framework and governance structure to support its expansion drive, particularly in backward integration, refining capacity, and market penetration across Nigeria.
