The Aliko Dangote Foundation has launched its 2025 Annual National Food Intervention Project, committing N16 billion to provide food relief for one million vulnerable Nigerians across the country.
The initiative, which was unveiled in Kano during an inaugural ceremony, underscores the foundation’s continued efforts to combat hunger amid economic challenges.
Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Aliko Dangote, made the announcement through his daughter, Marya Aliko-Dangote, who represented him at the event.
He explained that the programme aligns with the foundation’s core values of compassion, solidarity, and shared responsibility, aimed at mitigating the impact of food insecurity on the nation’s most vulnerable communities.
“The distribution of one million bags of 10kg rice to the poor and most vulnerable Nigerians across the 774 Local Councils is in line with the core values of the foundation. We are collaborating with states to ensure the food reaches the most vulnerable individuals in each state,” he stated.
The foundation, known for its extensive humanitarian and economic empowerment initiatives, has focused on addressing food shortages, access to clean water, healthcare, education, and community development. According to Dangote, the 2025 initiative seeks to complement government efforts in tackling hunger and poverty through a structured public-private partnership approach.
“We are also strengthening the quality and scope of health and education, as well as promoting economic empowerment at the community level,” he added.
Dangote further called on other industrialists and corporate organizations to extend similar support to Nigerians facing economic hardship. He noted that the collective involvement of the private sector is critical in providing sustainable solutions to the country’s food security crisis.
The launch of the N16 billion food intervention programme comes at a time when inflationary pressures and rising costs of living have significantly affected food affordability across the nation. The initiative is expected to provide much-needed relief to struggling households and contribute to ongoing efforts to alleviate hunger.
