President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation.
The appointment, which was confirmed today, will take effect from March 7, 2025, following the retirement of the current holder, Oluwatoyin Madehin.
Ogunjimi, a seasoned financial expert with extensive experience in public sector accounting and financial management, is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the office.
His appointment comes at a crucial time when the federal government is seeking to implement more stringent financial controls and improve transparency in public finance.
With over 25 years of service in various capacities within the Federal Ministry of Finance and other government agencies, Ogunjimi has built a reputation for integrity and effective financial oversight.
He is known for spearheading reforms aimed at enhancing fiscal responsibility and minimizing revenue leakages.
The Presidency, in a statement, highlighted Ogunjimi’s track record in implementing digital financial systems that have improved efficiency in budget management and expenditure tracking.
His leadership is expected to strengthen ongoing efforts to curb corruption and enhance accountability in the management of public funds.
As the new Accountant General, Ogunjimi will oversee the implementation of key financial policies, including the effective management of federation accounts, fiscal reporting, and compliance with international financial standards.
His immediate tasks will include streamlining federal revenue remittances and ensuring timely publication of government financial statements.
The appointment has been met with optimism among financial experts who believe Ogunjimi’s expertise will contribute significantly to achieving the Tinubu administration’s fiscal policy objectives.
