Dangote Peugeot Launches Locally Assembled Peugeot 3008 GT, Expanding SUV Lineup

Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited (DPAN), the official manufacturer and marketer of Peugeot vehicles in Nigeria, has commenced local assembly of the GT variant of the Peugeot 3008 SUV.

Equipped with a high-performance 1.6-litre turbo engine, the Peugeot 3008 GT is a globally acclaimed and award-winning SUV.

The vehicle is being assembled in Kaduna at DPAN’s state-of-the-art Greenfield Ultima Assembly Plant with a daily production capacity of 120 vehicles.

The production of the Peugeot 3008 GT builds on Dangote’s commitment to boosting Nigeria’s auto industry through local manufacturing and reducing dependency on imports.

The move is expected to create jobs, deepen local content, and support the Federal Government’s automotive policy aimed at encouraging local assembly and manufacturing.

This development follows Peugeot’s first assembly of the 3008 model on the African continent in Ghana in 2022. That milestone was achieved at the Silver Star Auto-owned Tema Assembly Plant, a result of a partnership between Citroën, Peugeot, and Silver Star Auto that began in 2019.

DPAN began production operations with the re-launch of the Peugeot brand in Nigeria, starting with the local assembly of the Peugeot 301 at its Kaduna plant.

Over time, the company has expanded its lineup to include models such as the Landtrek pickup, 3008, 5008, and the latest 508 models.

Dangote Industries entered the Nigerian automobile industry in 2016 through a joint venture with the Kaduna State Government and the Bank of Industry. The company went on to acquire a majority stake in Peugeot Automobile Nigeria.

By 2017, the conglomerate secured a license for a Peugeot assembly plant, and in 2022, DPAN officially began operations.

The joint venture, which includes Stellantis Group, the Kano and Kaduna state governments and Dangote Industries, operates the Greenfield Ultima Assembly Plant with a capacity of assembling multiple models daily.

Expanding beyond passenger vehicles, Dangote also launched the Dangote Sinotruk West Africa Limited (DSWAL) CKD plant in Lagos, which assembles heavy-duty, medium, and light trucks.

The plant has an annual production capacity of 10,000 units and provides over 3,000 jobs, further demonstrating Dangote’s commitment to industrialization and job creation in Nigeria.

The local assembly of the Peugeot 3008 GT is expected to strengthen competition in the Nigerian SUV market and provide customers with a premium driving experience while promoting made-in-Nigeria vehicles.

Industry analysts view the move as a step toward positioning Nigeria as a hub for automobile manufacturing in West Africa.

With the addition of the 3008 GT to its lineup, Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited reinforces its role in advancing Nigeria’s automotive sector and supporting the country’s drive for local industrial growth.
