Guaranty Trust Bank Ltd (GT Bank), one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, risks losing one of its facilities in the Tunga area of Niger State following a demolition order issued by the State Governor, Mohammed Bago.
During an unscheduled but guided tour of the ongoing construction site in Tunga on Saturday, December 14, Governor Bago reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the state’s infrastructure and emphasized the need for contractors to maximize the dry season for progress.
The road project, managed by the CCECC Construction Company and supervised by the State’s Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development, is expected to ease the challenges faced by road users in the area and attract investors to the state.
The Governor, who clarified that affected buildings would be given time to vacate, urged occupants to comply with the directive, noting that the demolition plan was non-negotiable.
Despite assurances of compensation, property owners, businesses—including GT Bank’s Tunga branch and the popular Ostrich Bakery—will inevitably suffer financial losses.
“The upstairs will go completely. All the houses that are going to be affected—let me have their report immediately. We’ll bring them down and process their payment. All the shops there will be given time to pack their belongings.
“We want to take advantage of the dry season. Any house that is not in alignment with this NSTA fence will be demolished—100 metres from the fence. CCECC should count the houses that will be affected,” the Governor stated.
Investors King learned that Governor Bago conducted the tour accompanied by the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Bahago, top officials from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development, CCECC construction workers, and other government representatives.
Governor Bago expressed confidence that, when completed, the project—alongside other infrastructural initiatives undertaken by his administration—would help elevate the state’s infrastructural standards and improve its overall appeal.
