Following the state visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President Bola Tinubu has pledged to further strengthen the economic partnership between Nigeria and Germany.
Speaking with journalists after a bilateral meeting held on Wednesday at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu noted that key business leaders are eager to collaborate with Germany.
He assured that his administration would continue to create business opportunities that benefit both nations.
Tinubu stated, “I observed from the earlier meeting today that our businessmen and policymakers are very keen to engage with Germany.
“My role is to continue providing assurances that our business doors are open and that reforms are progressing effectively. These discussions on business rankings and opportunities are essential.
“We plan to deepen the relationship and build partnerships that are mutually beneficial and rewarding to both countries. This includes fostering people-to-people relationships and ensuring government-to-government facilitation of opportunities and prosperity.”
Steinmeier acknowledged the challenges of tackling economic crises and commended Tinubu’s efforts, pledging Germany’s support for Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms.
“It is not easy. Germany faced a similar experience many years ago during a deep economic crisis. Courage and perseverance are essential, and these steps will ultimately benefit your country.
“I, along with everyone in German politics, am closely following your bold initiatives, and we stand ready to support you. Germany will assist Nigeria in its ongoing reforms,” Steinmeier affirmed.
Germany and Nigeria have maintained a broad partnership since Nigeria’s independence in 1960, a relationship that has grown stronger over the years.
